Studio Pierrot’s current project is none other than Naruto’s sequel series featuring his son, Boruto Uzumaki. Following the Fourth Great Ninja War, the series centers around the life of Boruto as he follows in his father’s footsteps by training to become a powerful ninja.

But being the son of the city’s hero comes with its own unique challenges. Now, the new generation of prodigy are challenged to live under their parents’ shadow while aiming to surpass them. The legacy of ninja continues and a new chapter of ninja begins!

9. Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best dark shōnen anime by Studio Pierrot produced to date. The series not just features a well-written protagonist like Ken Kaneki, who was once a mild-mannered student but eventually turned into a ghoul, but it also doesn’t hold back in expressing the gore and brutal elements of the show.

Historical and war anime is not the forte of Pierrot but Kingdom is a marvelous feat by the studio. Written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara, the anime provides a fictionalized account of the warring states period of China back in the Zhou dynasty era where China is yet to be recognized as such or even unified.

The series talks about a war orphan, Xin who fights along with his comrades to become the greatest general under the heavens. On a path filled with trials and bloodshed, Xin wishes to unify the territories of China for the first time in 500 years.

GTO is a classic 90s anime by Studio Pierrot centered around an ex-gang leader, Eikichi Onizuka who decides to straighten up his distorted life by becoming the greatest teacher ever. But, being a teacher isn’t easy, and Onizuka gets a taste of it regularly.

The anime takes a realistic approach to explore the modern-day issues of the academic system and its victimized students. Old-style animation and retro openings in addition to Onizuka’s out-of-the-box methods to help his students grow into better people is a treat to watch.

5. Yu Yu Hakusho

From the same author of Hunter × Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho is another masterpiece by Yoshihiro Togashi. Critically acclaimed for its battle anime sub-genre, the series follows Yusuke Urameshi who becomes a spirit detective after dying in a road accident.

As an underworld detective, Yusuke is appointed to investigate various cases involving demons and spirits in the human world. He must face powerful foes and battle some of the most imposing figures known in the Spirit World to protect his friends and family.

4. Black Clover

After the end of the Bleach and Naruto era, it was time for Studio Pierrot to take on the challenge of producing a new-gen series. And, guess what, they came up with the idea of adapting the popular shōnen manga of that time, Black Clover. This move by the studio turned out to be a success as the anime became a hit in no time.

Set in a magical world, Black Clover follows an aspiring youth named Asta who is born without any magic power. This is unknown to the world he lives in because seemingly every one is a mage. Nonetheless, Asta plans to become the next Wizard King for which he has to surpass his prodigy friend and childhood rival, Yuno.

3. Akudama Drive

Akudama Drive is one of those anime by Studio Pierrot that put forward a neon futuristic style and cyberpunk setting in the mainstream media. Set in a dystopian future, the series walks us through the life of the war-stricken fugitives of Kansai City, commonly known as “Akudama”.

One day, these highly skilled criminals are given a contract by an anonymous client to free a death row prisoner named Cutthroat unless they’ll be executed. Now, the team must work together to finish the job and earn their large payday. However, what starts as a game quickly evolves into a high-stakes and politically-active cyberpunk drama.

2. Bleach

Sword battles, a dominant female cast, a hierarchical system – if you’re looking for these three in the same show then Bleach is the right place for you. Without the efforts of Studio Pierrot, it wouldn’t have been possible to display Tite Kubo’s excellence with pen on the screens.

Bleach was ahead of its time in terms of both stylish animation and appealing character designs making this one of Studio Pierrot’s best anime in the 2000s. The series follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a soul reaper who tries to balance his life in between the Soul Society and the human world to protect the people he loves.

The early 2000s is termed as the best phase of the shōnen genre and half of its credit goes to Naruto. Along with One Piece and Bleach, Naruto was one of the biggest manga and anime series of its time produced under the belt of Studio Pierrot.
