The home entertainment market continued to thrive in 2023 with the launch of “Jujutsu Kaisen: Shibuya Incident Arc” and “Suzume” as fans didn’t hold back in adding these physical collections to their shelves. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most sold anime Blu-ray/DVDs of 2023. So, without further ado, let’s get started.
10. Oshi no Ko – 47,952 Copies
Oshi no Ko’s internet-breaking anime premiere was enough to put the show in a place where commercial success was guaranteed. Right after its spectacular anime pilot, the series became the centerpiece and ended the year on a high note with the source material listed among the best selling manga of 2023.
The biggest takeaway from the anime debut of Oshi no Ko was its theme song “Idol” by Yoasobi which broke multiple records and topped the Billboard Japan Hot 100. It remained the number-one song throughout 2023, cumulating a huge revenue for the franchise through the sales of Blu-ray and music video CDs.
9. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 – 58,548 Copies
The kingpin of the battle shonen genre, Jujutsu Kaisen has become accustomed to producing remarkable sales numbers year-on-year. 2023 turned out to be a game changer for the franchise as the anime aired its much-awaited Shibuya Incident arc that featured some of the best fighting sequences to be ever witnessed.
This got fans excited to buy the Blu-ray/DVDs of the second season, resulting in a surge of sales in the final quarter of the year. By the time Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 came to an end more than 58,000 copies of the Blu-ray discs were sold on the retail market, taking the franchise’s year-end financial revenue to US $34.3 million.
8. Quintessential Quintuplets – 68,104 Copies
Quintessential Quintuplets sits at the pinnacle of harem anime and 2023 saw the conclusion of this wonderful love story. Known for its great rendition of a colorful cast and humor in between, the franchise released a new anime series and the Blu-ray discs of its first feature film.
Luckily, the audience loved a dense two-hour and sixteen-minute long film and it made a profitable business through its home video sales. The inclusion of previously not adapted stories in the new season also played a part in the anime’s prosperity, making it one of the best-selling Blu-ray of 2023.
7. Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc – 85,030 Copies
Selling almost 85,000 copies of Blu-ray/DVDs in a year is deemed to be an achievement for any anime, but a series like Demon Slayer won’t be much satisfied with these numbers. Considering its previous successful run, for example the “Mugen Train” movie which sold 1 million DVDs in 3 days, the last year can be called okish.
A major cause of the franchise’s financial crash was the “Swordsmith Village” arc’s mixed bag of reviews as it faced criticism for the use of CG-modeled designs. Nevertheless, the season ended on a positive note and will aim to make up for the previous fiscal year’s loss in the year 2024.
6. Detective Conan The Movie: Black Iron Submarine – 92,033 Copies

As noticed by many, the movie shares a similar theme with Tom Cruise starrer “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” as it integrates recent technology into the action-packed tale involving the titular character, Interpol, and the Black Organization in the vast depths of the sea.
5. Lycoris Recoil – 97,891 Copies

As a new animation project of Lycoris Recoil is in the works, fans will be able to cherish the budding friendship between its two heroines, Chisato and Takina, once again on their screens.

After a successful box-office run, the makers launched the Blu-ray/DVD version of the film in 2023 and in its first week alone it registered record sales. It all happened thanks to Uta and Luffy’s chemistry on the screen and the cameo of Shanks in the film which compelled many fans to watch the movie.

Oricon estimates that the franchise earned around US $22 million in the debut year which is really groundbreaking considering the series’ nominal marketing. Additionally, the franchise is gearing up for two compilation films this year that will not only make more profit but will also relive the best moments from the anime’s debut.
