Japan Police Launch Manhunt For Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece Leakers
The manga leakers on social media have been in shambles since this afternoon as Japanese news network NHK reports that two foreigners have been arrested for violating the copyright law for publishing the serialized works of “Weekly Shonen Jump” on multiple internet sites a few days before the magazine’s official release.
On Sunday, the Kumamoto Prefectural Police Cyber Crime Control Division arrested two leak providers on suspicion of violating Copyright Law by posting images of the Weekly Shonen Jump series online. Prefectural police believe that the suspects purchased the magazine before its release date from a wholesale store in Tokyo.
According to the police announcement, the accused are suspected of uploading popular serialized works like “One Piece”, “Jujutsu Kaisen”, and “Blue Lock” illegally on websites and infringing the author’s copyright by taking pictures of the latest story published in their work on a smartphone and copying it.
In the wake of the recent arrest reports, Asahi newspaper published images of screenshots provided during the Kumamoto Cybercrime division press conference. The images included Twitter/X posts by Myamura, a popular Jujutsu Kaisen leaker, and watermarked raw scans by OPScans.
These images are used as evidence that the provided leaks have been used to be circulated on social media. Media agencies have also informed that the police are currently investigating websites where the stolen works were published illegally. They are also searching for additional individuals involved in this illegal activity.
