Gojo’s Voice Actor Faces Backlash for Sexually Explicit Remarks
One way or another, Jujutsu Kaisen always finds itself at the centre of attention and this time the series has found itself in a controversy surrounding its acclaimed anime voice actor for Gojo Satoru. The seiyuu is allegedly getting “canceled” over making sexually explicit jokes during a live-streamed gaming session.
In the latest scoop published by a Japanese media outlet, the newspaper hammered Yuichi Nakamura (voice actor of Gojo, Hawks, Kuroo) over explicit humor he made during a gaming live-stream of Grand Theft Auto 5. Weekly Bunshun accused Nakamura of making sexual comments at a female player.
The newspaper reported that the popular voice actor made remarks like, “I’ll look inside your skirt” and “Don’t c*m before me” while participating in a live broadcast project based on GTA 5 called “Street Graffiti Role Play” – where actors play predetermined roles that are intended to be unlike their typical persona.
Weekly Bunshun’s article, published on the X platform, garnered astounding traction and within hours it reached over 48 million views. The overwhelming majority of responses on social media expressed disapproval of Nakamura’s conduct and condemned the tabloid newspaper’s attempt to defame the voice actor.
Amidst the sea of negativity, a vocal subset of his peers and fans rallied to his defense. Many colleagues of Nakamura came in his support, stating that explicit jokes of this kind are nothing new and are actually part of his endearing personality.
Despite these recent developments, Crunchyroll has indicated no intention of replacing Nakamura as the voice of Gojo. The streaming platform remains committed to keeping Yuichi Nakamura in the future seasons of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime television series.
