Chainsaw man manga sales

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s dark fantasy series “Chainsaw Man” sits at the very top of the modern shonen manga throne. While the series has garnered a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim since its anime debut, recent reports of declining manga sales suggest that the upcoming Chainsaw Man movie may not come any sooner.

Manga Codex, a sales tracker website by X user @Josu_ke, reports that Chainsaw Man manga sales have taken a major hit over the past few years. As per Oricon data, the physical sales of Chainsaw Man manga have nearly halved over the last two years and are actually around the same as just before the anime was announced.

Before Chainsaw Man anime started airing, the series had over 16 million copies in circulation which jumped to 23 million copies by the end of the first season. The rapid increase in sales was noted to be triggered by the anime premiere and the debut of the second part of Chainsaw Man manga of the Shonen Jump+ app.

It has been more than a year since the anime ended and the franchise has sold only around 4 million copies more in physical and digital sales. While the digital readership for the second part has remained constant since the end of last year, there has been a significant drop in readership and physical sales.

Chainsaw Man Manga Sales Slump: Impact on Upcoming Movie

The highly anticipated sequel film of the anime series titled “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” is currently in production line with no concrete release date. Many fans are hoping that the anime will return soon, but the noticeable decline in manga sales has raised questions about the timing and viability of the movie.

With sales of the manga faltering, there are fears that the “Reze arc” movie may not come any sooner. Notably, the anime didn’t do well financially (as stated by director Ryu Nakayama), and seeing a collapse in series popularity the producers won’t rush to release the film on the silver screen.

However, despite these challenges, there is still hope among fans that the Chainsaw Man movie will overcome its release window obstacles and breathe new life into the series. Needless to say, the much-anticipated sequel film is just what the franchise needs to reverse course.
