Solo Leveling Anime Receives Backlash For Abrupt Scene Changes
The most popular show airing right now is none other than the anime adaptation of the hit manhwa series, Solo Leveling. With its exhilarating action scenes, stellar visuals, and relatable character journey, the series is winning hearts over the globe. However, despite all the praise, Solo Leveling has been met with negative reviews over the latest episode.
In Episode 6 of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo continues his epic quest to level up. Despite being abandoned in the double dungeon to face the monstrous spider, Jinwoo doesn’t falter and gets the better of it. Things get intense when the group of malicious hunters returns to the dungeon to eliminate Jinwoo.
As the exciting clash nears its peak and dungeon confrontations climax, the anime unexpectedly cuts to a mellow café scene, disrupting the tonal shift and narrative flow of the episode. This abrupt scene transition at the height of tension sparked discontent among many fans.
Both longtime fans of the manhwa and anime-only viewers widely criticized the jarring scene shift. Many called out this directorial choice and expressed their displeasure over the disconnect that resulted in diminished action payoff and perplexed viewing experience.
Fans believe that the unnecessary cut drained suspense and attention from Jinwoo’s first major fight, which they were eagerly waiting to see animated on the screen. They were also concerned over the pacing issues of Solo Leveling anime, but the critics mainly showed frustration with the abrupt transition.
However, amid all the backlash, some manhwa fans welcomed the move as they got to meet characters like Hee-Jin and Gina quite early in the anime. Yet, they agreed the placement felt a little off and should be avoided in the future in order to give proper attention to pivotal moments in Sung Jinwoo’s journey.
Nonetheless, the anime continues to entertain the fans of the series and everyone is enjoying it so far. Crunchyroll is streaming Solo Leveling anime in multiple dub languages and enthusiasts can tune in every Saturday to watch the latest episode from the comfort of their screens.
