Boruto Anime Return Reportedly Pushed Back To 2028
The successor of one of the iconic anime franchises in the world, “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” was supposed to be the carrier of the modern shonen era. But, instead of being the facet of the new-gen shows, the anime series is reportedly being sidelined by the producers and leaks suggest that it won’t return until the next 4-5 years.
As per reliable leaker and X (formerly Twitter) user @Worllff, the Boruto anime has allegedly been delayed for a significant period and is unlikely to make its comeback before 2027 or 2028. Previously rumored to be on a brief hiatus, fans now face the likelihood of waiting several more years before the series resumes.
The news comes just days after an interview with Studio Pierrot’s managing director who disclosed the studio’s future plans and revealed that the animation studio intends to prioritize producing high-quality anime that can compete globally, suggesting a shift to seasonal shows rather than long-running series.
As of now, Studio Pierrot is completely focused on “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War”, following which they might turn to other titles in their hand. However, the producers can still make it possible for Boruto to return quickly but it may come at the cost of lower animation quality, which many fans won’t like.
Following the revelation of the Boruto anime delay, many fans took to social media to express their disappointment at the extended wait, but some see it as an opportunity for the series to return with higher quality. The delay means that the production will not be rushed, subsequently meaning a better anime adaptation.
“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” began airing in 2017 and ended with Episode 293 in March 2023. Even though the Boruto manga is a monthly series and doesn’t have enough source material, fans believed that it would take some time before the anime returns. However, with the leak, it’s certain that the anime will not return anytime soon.
