Shang-Chi Director To Helm Naruto Live-Action Movie
One of the most successful IPs worldwide, Naruto will soon add a new chapter to its already incredible journey with the upcoming live-action film. And, to make this highly anticipated project unforgettable for fans, the franchise has closed a deal with a celebrated Marvel filmmaker to direct the Naruto live-action movie.
On Friday, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group made an announcement revealing that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, will be on board for the live-action adaptation of the manga classic Naruto. Besides, serving as a co-producer, Cretton will both write and direct the film.
On being appointed as the head director of Naruto live-action film, Cretton expressed his excitement to take over the project quoting, “We are very excited to collaborate and bring Naruto to the big screen. It was a true honor to meet Kishimoto-san in Tokyo and hear his expansive vision for his creation”.
Masashi Kishimoto, the original creator of the Naruto manga, released a statement backing Cretton to deliver on his vision. “When I heard of Destin’s attachment, it happened to be right after watching a blockbuster action film of his and I thought he would be the perfect director for Naruto”, he stated.
“After enjoying his other films and understanding that his forte is in creating solid dramas about people, I became convinced that there is no other director for Naruto”, he added. Kishimoto firmly believes that with Cretton being in charge of the Naruto live-action, the film is already destined to be a blockbuster hit.
Naruto’s live-action film has been in development at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group since 2015. Previously, Tasha Huo was slated to pen the film but with the entry of Cretton, he will no longer do so. The film has no concrete release window as of yet, and more production details will soon be shared with the fans of the series.
