Body horror genre’s groundbreaking series, Parasyte is coming to Netflix this summer in the form of a live-action adaptation. The streaming giant on Wednesday released a poster visual confirming the production staff, cast, and premiere date for the highly anticipated series.

Netflix’s new series titled “Parasyte: The Grey” is a gripping tale of humans and parasites from “Train to Busan” director Yeon Sang-ho. Set to premiere on April 5, the live-action series will reimagine the original manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki but will tell its own new story.

Rather than attempting to recreate the source material exactly as it appears in the manga or anime adaptation, the Parasyte live-action series features a female protagonist named Jeong Su-in who becomes symbiotic with a parasite when it fails to take over her brain.

When spores of extraterrestrial parasites descend and invade human bodies to be their hosts, a special unit called Team Grey surfaces to stop parasitic organisms from using humans as hosts to expand their power. The live-action series stars Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Jung-hyun in the main lead.

The original creator of the story, Hitoshi Iwaaki, expressed his excitement about Netflix’s new series, saying, “Above all, I was thrilled by the fact that the series covers a new story. As the original creator, I am also one of the audience who cherish the series with surprise and anticipation”.

Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga has previously inspired a television anime adaptation titled “Parasyte: The Maxim” in 2014, and two live-action films as well. With Netflix’s modernized adaptation of “Parasyte”, fans can look forward to a unique and innovative take on the beloved series, with fresh twists and surprises.
