The announcement caught the attention of industry veterans, including Blue Lock manga artist Yusuke Nomura, who shared his thoughts on Embers via his X/Twitter account:

“Next week’s issue of WSJ will see the start of a new series called ‘Embers,’ illustrated by Nishii-sensei, a former staff member of Blue Lock who was responsible for the dynamic and sharp backgrounds. He’s completely out to crush us—Professor Nishii is a scary guy! Everyone, please join us next week.”

As Nomura’s statement clarifies, Nishi Sotaro—the artist for Embers, previously served as a background assistant for Blue Lock. Sotaro is an extremely talented sports manga artist and has won an award for Best Newcomer.

Embers by Kurumazagi Kei and Nishi Sotaro will hit shelves on February 3. With football manga like Blue Lock and Ao Ashi dominating the scene, it will be exciting to see how this new series carves its place among established titles.
