A 12-Year Kid From India Commits Suicide After Watching Anime
Anime is one of the biggest sources of entertainment for the audience and for some, it’s kind of only lifeline. But, sometimes a simple-looking anime show turns into a disaster when it’s interpreted in a very wrong way and the same thing happened in the dream city of Kolkata, India.
On Saturday, a very shocking incident came to the notice of media agencies when they found out that a 12-year-old child committed suicide after getting influenced by an anime series named ‘Platinum End’. After being addicted to the anime, the boy jumped off the 11th floor of an apartment, falling to death near a swimming pool.
After the initial investigation, police came to know that the boy jumped in hopes that he would be saved by an ‘angel’ as shown in the anime ‘Platinum End’. Mirai Kakehashi, the protagonist of Platinum End, attempts suicide in a similar fashion at the start of the series. However, he is saved by his guardian angel, following which he receives special powers.
“After primary investigation, we are convinced that the boy was addicted to this serial and inspired by it took this fatal step,” an officer told the news agency. “Though there is no physical evidence to his suicide but considering the circumstantial evidence we are apparently sure that the boy was so much addicted to this anime that he thought of jumping from the roof.”
The child was a primary school student of a reputable school and was the younger one of the two siblings. He was recently given an electronic gadget because of his online classes. However, he apparently used to it watch the series online and got addicted to it. And, as a result, took such a dangerous step.
Platinum End is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba & illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the same duo of well-known series Death Note. An anime television series was premiered in October 2021.
