As a child or even adults, we’ve heard a very common line, “You should always respect your elders”. That’s true, you should and protecting & caring for them should be the priority for anyone. But, this stereotype doesn’t apply to some strongest old man in anime who possess such immense power that even the heroes and villains fear them.

In the world of anime, the saying “old men are weak” is nothing more than a myth. The usual portrayal of old people in anime is that of the sagely, still powerful fighter, especially in shōnen anime. Even in their old age, these anime characters give a proper demonstration of their real power combined with strength and experience.

And, in today’s article, we’ll take a look at some of the strongest old men in anime who’re so powerful that most other characters in their show aren’t. So, without any further ado let’s get started.

10. Joseph Joestar from ‘JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure’

Joseph Joestar served as the main protagonist of the second part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Everyone is aware of his mischievous acts and incredible feats at his young age but, that didn’t fade away when Joseph turned old. Joseph is a well-known Ripple and Stand user who can also use Hermit Purple, the psychic photographic stand.

In Stardust Crusaders, the now-elderly Joseph Joestar made his full contribution in the quest to slay Dio. He has grown a bit, but can still use Hamon and can also wield his own stand, Hermit Purple, to make magic photographs. Joseph has still many moves under his sleeves which makes him quite a cool grandpa. He’s still a saphead, but is a clever & brave man who knows how to deal with problems.

9. Yoshinobu Gakuganji from ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’

Have you ever seen a 76-year-old man playing the guitar? Well, if you haven’t, then prepare yourself to meet the honourable principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High, Yoshinobu Gakuganji. Although, Jujutsu Kaisen is full of amazing talents and overpowered anime characters, still the involvement of Gakuganji is even more special. He’s the oldest character in the series and also, a strong opponent.

He can fool anyone with his wrinkly old appearance but he has a tremendous amount of Cursed Energy and is also an experienced Jujutsu sorcerer. He is an extremely traditional man who follows the orders of his higher-ups’ word by word. Gakuganji’s innate technique includes amplifying his guitar sound waves with the help of his body so that he can then launch towards the enemy at full force.

8. Silver Fang from ‘One Punch Man’

Silver Fang is the hero name given to Bang and he is one of the most powerful S-Class heroes in the Hero Association. Although, he’s labelled as a “superhero” actually he doesn’t possess some kind of ridiculous superpowers. Bang’s special ability is literally just being a talented martial artist. His speed and reflexes are just on a different level.

Despite his old age, Bang possesses incredible physical strength, far beyond that of an average hero, even by S-Class standards. He is able to destroy meteorite fragments with his bare hands. And, don’t forget, Garou was once a disciple of Silver Fang. The only heroes capable of keeping up with his abilities are Saitama and his brother Bomb.

7. Master Roshi from ‘Dragon Ball’

There are tons of anime mentors or tutors in history, but no one is as entertaining and as cool as Master Roshi. Master Roshi was at one point the most accomplished martial artist that ever lived. He created his own martial arts style and mastered the Kamehameha technique to the degree that he could use it to put out a fire at full power.

He is an old man in anime series of Dragon Ball, but don’t get deceived by his looks as he’s responsible for training some of the strongest fighters in the universe including Goku, Krillin and Ox-King. Roshi still had the strength and skill to defeat Goku in hand-to-hand combat. He has also shown the ability to use the Kamehameha wave to destroy the moon, a power most wouldn’t display for years.

6. Hiruzen Sarutobi from ‘Naruto’

Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage of the Leaf Village was initially an old kind man but, in reality, he was one of the two individuals who is hailed as the God of Shinobi. In his prime, Hiruzen was a powerful Shinobi who possessed unmatched capabilities. Even at the age of retirement, he stayed put in his position as a Hokage for the safety of Konoha and its people.

He was one of the strongest Hokage that had ever lived, having trained all three of the legendary Sannin – Jiraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade. After the attack of Orochimaru on Konoha Village, Hiruzen fought him toe-to-toe and also handled the reincarnated First and Second Hokage. Although his strength and capabilities deteriorated over time, he was still the God of Shinobi.

5. Makarov Dreyar from ‘Fairy Tail’

Makarov is also a master of all three of the Great Fairy Magic. He’s specifically known for using Fairy Law, a spell that attacks anyone the user doesn’t view as a friend.

4. Isaac Netero from ‘Hunter x Hunter’

Isaac Netero was the 12th Chairman of the Hunter Association and the Head of the Exam Commission. In his youth, he was extolled as the most powerful Nen user in the world and retained dreadful strength even in his old age. His old age hasn’t led to the decrement in his qualities and he has only gone on to improve even more.

He and Zeno Zoldyck are two of the most powerful Nen users in Hunter x Hunter. Netero’s main asset is his lightning-fast speed and reflexes which can allow him to use his special ability “100-type Guanyin Bodhisattva”. Even against the powerful anime villain like Meruem, he fought equally and said farewell stylishly.

Edward Newgate, widely known as Whitebeard, was 72 years old when he fought the battle of Marineford. At such an old age, he showed the people why he was the strongest man in the world. He has ruled the seas like a king and after the death of Gol D. Roger, Whitebeard was arguably the undisputed old man in anime and also, the most powerful character in One Piece.

His devil fruit power that allowed him to generate powerful shock waves was feared even by the Marines. Even at the time of his death, he refused to fall to the ground signifying his willpower as the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates. Edward Newgate was truly the legendary man ever lived.

2. Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto from ‘Bleach’

“Old man Yama” is the captain of the 1st Division of the Gotei 13 and also the Captain-Commander of the whole Gotei 13. He is not only the strongest old man in anime, but he’s also one of the top fighters in all of Bleach. He has trained a lot of talented Soul Reapers and his powers are incredible both in terms of swordsmanship and raw strength despite his age.

He has the creation of power at his disposal which he can also use in reverse to erase anything from the world. Besides having Godly powers he also has powerful techniques at his disposal like Meteor Jab, Divine Axe and Adamas.

Zeus is possibly the strongest God in existence, as he is constantly referred to as the “Chairman or King of the Gods” and the “final boss”. He also viewed the Big Bang as a thrill and could destroy Heaven in his final form. When addressing his fellow Gods, Zeus is extremely calm and authoritative while possessing a very formal and wise disposition but in reality, he is a total battle maniac.
