2023 kicked off with a banger all around the world and everybody welcomed the new year joyfully. For sure 2022 was a year to remember for many while for some it wasn’t that much great. But, that doesn’t mean this year will also be the same and the stacked list of exciting anime in 2023 is giving a hint that it’s going to be glorious. From new adaptations to famous classic anime remakes, we’ll have a ton to keep us busy all year.
Over a hundred anime series were released last year including remarkable titles like “Chainsaw Man”, “Spy × Family”, and “Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War Arc”. While the previous year introduced us to some of the most entertaining shows, 2023 will also provide us with a wide range of fantastic anime from brand-new anime adaptations to the promising sequels of popular franchises.

15. NieR Automata – January 7
Nier: Automata is an upcoming anime television series based on the popular action role-playing game “NieR: Automata” developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix. The game is part of the Drakengard series and is a sequel to the 2010 video game Nier. The anime will be produced by A-1 Pictures and is scheduled to air on January 8.
This game-based anime is set during a proxy war between alien-created machines and human-crafted androids, the story follows the trials of combat android 2B, scanner android 9S, and rogue prototype A2. The story references several philosophies and explores themes of finding value in life and the reasons people kill.
14. Tokyo Revengers Season 2 – January 8
Tokyo Revengers will make its return this winter with its second season unveiling new faces from the original manga written by Ken Wakui. After a cliffhanger ending in the first season, fans are eagerly waiting to know whether Takemichi is dead or alive and season 2 will uncover the truth from this mystery.
Tokyo Revengers Season 2 will adapt the “Christmas Showdown” arc which introduces the Black Dragons gang who pose a big threat to Tokyo Manji. Led by Taiju Shiba (Hakkai’s older brother), the 10th generation of the Black Dragons gang takes on the Tokyo Manji gang to decide the existence of both factions.
13. Vinland Saga Season 2 – January 9
Out of all the comebacks this year, Vinland Saga Season 2 is arguably the best gift for the viewers of anime in 2023. The anime television series is finally receiving its most awaited sequel after a long gap of 3 years thanks to the efforts of Studio MAPPA. While the first season served as an epilogue to Thorfinn’s character development, the true saga is only getting started.
The second season of Vinland Saga follows the manga’s “Slave Arc” which highlights Thorfinn’s slavery as a punishment for attacking Canute, the new king, for stealing his purpose of existence with the execution of Askeladd. The story progresses through several story arcs beyond this, eventually culminating in an expedition to Vinland.
12. Black Clover Movie – March 31
“Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King” is an upcoming anime film based on the popular shōnen series, Black Clover. This is the first movie of the franchise and is set to premiere on March 31st, 2023 in Japanese theatres. On the same day, it will also be released worldwide on Netflix for international viewers.
The creator of the series, Yuki Tabata himself is supervising the movie and is involved in the narration of the story. Although the fans are skeptical about the plot of the movie, it has already been confirmed by Netflix that the movie is going to feature the main cast and will be a completely original story centered around the previous Wizard King, Konrad.
11. Dr. Stone Season 3 – April
The most awaited third season of Dr. Stone titled “Dr. Stone: New World” is set to premiere in April 2023. Written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by the South Korean artist Boichi, the third season is a direct sequel to “Stone Wars” and will follow after the events of “Dr. Stone Ryusui”.
Dr. Stone Season 2 will follow the main cast as the Kingdom of Science sets itself towards building a ship capable of traveling the world, to better understand the cause of global petrification. The season will see the addition of new characters and places, including Francois, the faithful butler of Ryusui.
10. Hell’s Paradise – April
Studio MAPPA is going to be very busy this year as a lot of upcoming anime in 2023 belongs to their production and the horror-adventure fantasy series, “Hell’s Paradise” is one among them. Set in the Edo period of Japan, the series follows an elite shinobi assassin, Gabimaru the Hollow.
Captured during an assassination mission, Gabimaru is sentenced to be executed, but nothing seems to kill him due to his superhuman body. Seeing his absolute steadiness, the Shogunate offers him the chance to be pardoned of all crimes if he finds the elixir of life on a mysterious island called “Hell’s Paradise” where heaven and hell are just a hair’s breadth away.
9. Demon Slayer Season 3 – April
2023 would be incomplete without the presence of the Demon Slayer franchise and to make it up to the fans, Ufotable is coming with the third season of the anime in April 2023. “Swordsmith Village” arc will serve as the third season and will follow up the journey of Tanjiro after the Entertainment District incident. Most notably, the Upper Moon meeting is going to take place in next season.
To replace his broken sword, Tanjiro travels to the Swordsmith Village where he meets Mitsuri Kanroji (Love Hashira) Muichiro Tokito (Mist Hashira), and Genya Shinazugawa. Upon his arrival, the Upper Ranks four and five of the Twelve Kizuki launch a coordinated assault on the village. In the absence of Zenitsu and Inosuke, Tanjiro joins the two Hashiras in a battle of life and death with the Upper Ranks.
8. Mashle: Magic and Muscles – April
Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a coming-of-age comedy anime in 2023 set around school life and wizardry similar to that of J.K. Rowling’s world-famous “Harry Potter”. Written and illustrated by Hajime Komoto, Mashle revolves around a magical world in which an individual’s position within society is defined by the power of and skill with magic.
As a result, Mash Burnedead without so much as an ounce of magic in his blood finds it difficult to adapt to this world. However, he decides to live a peaceful life with his adoptive father for which he needs to become a Divine Visionary, a title that is only given to exceptional students from the Easton Magic Academy. Despite having no magic whatsoever, Mash goes to the magic school, determined to survive and show the world that muscles can beat magic.
7. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 – July
Jujutsu Kaisen fans should also be prepared for some action as the sequel of the series is among the most awaited anime in 2023. A few months back, Studio MAPPA confirmed that the anime will make its comeback this year in July and will run for consecutive two cours alongside the other 2023 comebacks like Demon Slayer and Bleach.
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will adapt the “Gojo’s Past” arc which displays the past events of Jujutsu Tech when Gojo and Geto were best friends. In addition, viewers will also be introduced to another strongest Jujutsu Kaisen character, Toji Fushigoro and most probably, we can also get a glimpse of the “Shibuya Incident Arc”.
6. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc Part 2 – July
Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War recently finished its first cour of the final arc however, it is not the end of the series as the second cour of the anime is scheduled to premiere in July 2023. The story of Bleach TYBW goes like this, “To maintain the balance of the hollow system, the Soul Society destroyed the entire race of Quincy 1000 years ago.
However, after various incidents involving Hollow disappearances and mass murders begin to take place, it comes to notice that Quincy’s are still alive. Led by their founder, Yhwach the Quincy starts gathering their power back and declares war against the Soul Society that will decide the fate of the other dimensions and the Soul Palace itself”.
5. Solo Leveling – TBA
South Korean manhwa Solo Leveling’s anime adaptation is also going to premiere in 2023 and fans are more than delighted to witness the series. Produced by A-1 Pictures, Solo Leveling follows the life of the weakest hunter of all mankind, E-rank hunter Sung Jin-Woo who takes a dangerous job like raiding the monster dungeons in an attempt to not get killed.
Unfortunately, between his mother’s hospital bills, his sister’s tuition, and his lack of job prospects, he has no choice but to continue to put his life on the line. But, one day during a guild operation Jin-Woo encounters a tragic situation that turns his life upside-down and grants him the power to level up.
4. Mushoku Tensei Season 2 – TBA
Mushoku Tensei also termed ‘Jobless Reincarnation’ follows the story of a 34-year-old virgin jobless guy who is kicked out of his house when he runs out of money. On the verge of life where he has nothing except regret, he suddenly dies in a road accident. Later on, he finds himself being reincarnated in a new world, as a baby, where he goes by the name of Rudeus Greyrat.
In a world full of swords and sorcery, he resolves to live his life without regrets and make the best of his knowledge from his previous life. As Rudeus’ second chance at life begins, he tries to make the most of his new opportunity while developing his skills in magic. The second season of Mushoku Tensei is also listed to be released in 2023.
3. Rurouni Kenshin – TBA
The anime remake of the classic 90s anime, Rurouni Kenshin is something everyone should look forward to in 2023. The series follows an Ishin assassin known as the Hitokiri Battousai, whose skill and brutality became near legendary in the age of Restoration he helped to build. However, as the time of fighting drew to a close, he vanished without a trace, only to resurface eleven years later as a wandering swordsman, Himura Kenshin.
Now staying at a kenjutsu dojo maintained by a fiery-tempered woman named Kamiya Kaoru, and surrounded by newfound friends, Himura seeks to carry out his vow to protect the weak without killing in order to atone for the lives he’s taken. It’s not long, though, before this vow is put to the test, and the shadows of his past return to haunt him and everyone he holds dear.

Spy × Family is all set to expand its fanbase with two big projects of anime in 2023; the second season and a movie. The series follows Twilight, a spy who is tasked with a top-secret mission to prevent East-West peace. To accomplish it, he is assigned to create a family within a week and infiltrate the social gathering of the prestigious school where his target, Donovan Desmond’s son attends.
Dressed as a psychiatrist “Loid Forger”, Twilight sets out to find the best-suited family for his mission. However, the daughter Anya he meets turns out to be an esper, who could read people’s minds, and his wife Yor turns out to be an assassin! Now, world peace is entrusted in the hands of this dramatic family. Without revealing their true identity, they have to live together while keeping the mission on track.
1. Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 – TBA
Hajime Isayama’s critically acclaimed “Attack On Titan” will deliver its final verdict of the anime in 2023. Even though the final season has been stretched into three parts over almost three years, fans are still on the edge of their seats to witness the upcoming conclusion of their favorite show.
Studio MAPPA hasn’t confirmed a release window for the final part but reportedly it’ll for sure be released this year. The final part of Attack On Titan will see the people of Paradis and Marley putting their differences aside in order to survive the Rumbling, which was set in motion by Eren in Season 4 Part 2.
