Gege Akutami Credits Fate for Inspiring Jujutsu Kaisen
The buzz of Jujutsu Kaisen in the entertainment industry is immeasurable and it’s currently the most talked about series worldwide. All the glory and attention it’s getting these days is due to the hit anime adaptation and ongoing manga by Gege Akutami who has recently come out to be a huge fan of the Fate franchise.
In the latest interview by the author, Akutami opened up about his love of the Fate franchise when asked about his inspirations for Jujutsu Kaisen. “If we’re talking about influence, Fate/Zero is a major influence. I was also very influenced by Nasu Kinoko’s plot building. It might be a little different from Gen Urobuchi’s original Fate/Zero though,” Akutami shared.
“I really love how they just keep the explanation of the plot and the terms, and I find it fabulous that how in Eva they construct it for entertainment. It’s like they’re telling us to just look it up if we didn’t understand it”, Akutami added. The author also admitted that he took a page from the hit franchise to craft Yuji’s tale.
Upon being questioned about his favorite Fate character, Akutami commended Gilgamesh and his unforgiving personality. “My favorite character is Gilgamesh. I was happy with how strict and self-righteous he was in Fate/Zero”. Now, it’s pretty much clear why Akutami made Sukuna such a smug.
Akutami’s love for the Fate franchise has not been hidden as he previously participated in celebrating the 15th Anniversary of Fate/stay Night where he drew an illustration of Lancer. The introduction of Yuta’s domain expansion in the latest Jujutsu Kaisen chapter is also a direct reference to “Unlimited Blade Works” from Fate.
The concept of a Domain Expansion is seemingly inspired by that of a Reality Marble in the Fate series. Fate most definitely helped Akutami lay the land in Jujutsu Kaisen and in coming years more homages may be seen by the author towards his favorite series.
