And, similarly, a series of anime records have also been made since its origin.

The history of anime can be traced back to the start of the 20th century, with the earliest films dating from the 1900s. In the 1980s, anime became mainstream in Japan, experiencing a boom in production with the rise in popularity of anime like Gundam, Dragon Ball, and popular movies like Akira. For so many years, this form of media has made a lot of memories including some unknown records made by different series.

The anime continued to gain criticism as it aired, and soon it became the worst anime of all time on MyAnimeList.

#9 Most Streamed Anime Song – “Gurenge” Demon Slayer S1 Opening (290 Million Streams)

Gurenge debuted in the first episode of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as the opening song. It is performed by Japanese pop singer LiSA, known for singing other famous openings such as “Crossing Field” from Sword Art Online, and “Oath Sign” from Fate/Zero. The TV version spans for a duration of one minute and 30 seconds, whereas the full version of the song lasts for three minutes and 56 seconds. The song first aired on April 6, 2019 and as of now, has been streamed over 290 million times on Spotify.

Detective Conan, also called Case Closed, is a detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. The anime adaptation of the series started serialization in 1996 by TMS Entertainment. Although, the series has a large number of episodes counting to 1044 to date but almost a half of them are non-canon. Detective Conan has over 440 filler episodes in the entirety of the series thus, making it anime with highest number of filler episodes.

“It’s Over 9000!”, also known as simply “Over 9000!”, is an Internet meme that became popular in 2006, involving a change made for English localizations of an episode of the Dragon Ball Z anime television series titled “The Return of Goku”, which originally aired on April 19, 1997. The phrase is typically used as an innumerable quantifier to describe a large quantity of something. The original line was spoken by the Saiyan character, Vegeta.

#6 Largest Comic Book Published – Attack On Titan (1m Tall, 70cm Wide)

In May 2021, The Guinness World Record officially certified Attack on Titan’s large-sized printing as the largest comic book published to date. The book measured one meter tall, 70 centimeters wide, making them 6-7 times larger than a regular manga, and weighs 13.7 kilograms (30.2 pounds) each. It was designed to be read by Eren in his Titan form. The limited volumes were sold out almost immediately under 2 minutes, even with a price tag of over $1,500 USD.

One Piece, Dragon Ball and Naruto are some of the well-recognized anime shows consisting of large numbers of episodes counted in the entirety of the series but, do you know that none of these three has the highest number of episodes count in anime history? Yes, that’s true the number one on the list is Sazae-san.

Sazae-san is the longest-running animated series in history and it holds the Guinness Book of World Record for this. The show started in 1969 and consists of more than 2500+ episodes. Notably, the anime series is still in production and new episodes air every week on Fuji TV.

#4 Only Anime To Win An Oscar – Spirited Away

Spirited Away is a 2001 anime film written by famous director, Hayao Miyazaki. The response from the movie was unbelievable as it grossed more than ¥31.68 billion yen in Japan and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards, making it the first, and to date only, hand-drawn and non-English-language animated film to win the award.

Spirited Away tells the story of a 10-year-old girl Chihiro Ogino who while moving to a new neighborhood, enters the world of Kami (spirits of Japanese Shinto folklore). After her parents are turned into pigs by a witch named Yubaba, Chihiro takes a job working in Yubaba’s bathhouse to find a way to free herself and her parents and return to the human world.

Shoujo Tsubaki is a 1992 anime film about a young girl whose life completely changes after her father lefts and mother dies. It was one of the most controversial anime movies at that time because of its dark, depressing and intense storyline. The movie portrayed child sexual abuse and unbearable bloody scenes.

Many viewers claimed to be traumatized by the horrifying and disturbing visuals of the movie. For many viewers, it became such a nightmare that people destroyed the tapes of this film. In the Global TV Demand Awards 2021 held by Parrot Analytics, Attack on Titan became the first-ever non-English language series to earn the prestigious title of World’s Most In-Demand television show in 2021. This achievement has been previously held by only The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Furthermore, anime was the third most in-demand global subgenre in 2021, behind only crime dramas and sitcoms.
