The one animation studio which has made a remarkable impact on the Japanese anime industry and has made its strong reputation in just a couple of years is, Studio MAPPA. In the past decade, MAPPA has blessed the fans with some extraordinary anime shows that we can’t even imagine and their current projects include Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack On Titan Final Season.

MAPPA was established in the year 2011 by Masao Maruyama, a founder and former producer of Madhouse. For those who don’t know, MAPPA is an acronym for “Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association”. Last year in June 2021, MAPPA celebrated its 10th anniversary and announced several future projects as well.

The studio has entertained the audience with top-notch visuals and great direction that can only be done by a very few animation studios at the present moment. But, despite all these achievements, we’re always very eager to know what’s next? And, to answer this exact same question we’ve covered up some upcoming anime from Studio MAPPA.

So, let’s get started.

Attack On Titan Final Season Part 3

When Studio WIT dropped the project of Attack on Titan after the third season everyone was stressed & confused about the future of the series. Fans were in awe about who will animate such a classic shōnen anime series and then Studio MAPPA came forward and handled the job perfectly.

At first, even fans were a little bit suspicious and tensed about the work of MAPPA but as soon as the first episode of Attack On Titan Final Season dropped everyone was dazzled. And, now here we are waiting for another thrilling part and most surely the final part of Attack On Titan Season 4.

The first episode of the final season aired on December 7, 2020, but, the show isn’t finished yet. For another entertaining year, MAPPA is all set to deliver the climax of Attack On Titan as the studio has confirmed that the Attack On Titan Final Season Part 3 will release in 2023.

Chainsaw Man

At the moment, MAPPA is surely the most talked-about animation studio because of its numerous big future projects and the highly anticipated Chainsaw Man is one of them. The anime still hasn’t dropped yet but considering the hype of the series, it is definitely going to be the best anime by Studio MAPPA.

In June 2021, MAPPA released a teaser for the anime which was broadcasted live on YouTube, and fans from all over the globe watched the entire 5-hours long live event without the subtitles just for Chainsaw Man. The anime is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto and is scheduled to release somewhere in 2022.

The series follows the story of a young boy, Denji who lives a pathetic life alongside his only friend, Pochita. Denji dreams of living a normal life and dying in the arms of a beautiful girl and his ambition to get out of the miserable life push him so hard that one-day Denji encounters a difficult job that leads him to the world of darkness and transforms him into a Chainsaw devil.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen is the most popular manga series currently which is breaking the records every week and stands top of the tally of half-yearly manga sales in 2022. Half of its credit goes to MAPPA for adapting this series into an anime.

In October 2020, MAPPA took the project of Jujutsu Kaisen and surpassed everyone’s expectations by delivering a brilliant piece of work. The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen was a hit and as a result, the makers of the series renewed the anime television series for the second season in 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will pick up from where it left and will cover Gojo’s past. The arc will display the bond between Gojo & Geto and a more in-depth analysis of Geto’s personality. Moreover, fans will be introduced to a new & interesting character, Toji Fushigoro who is going to add a ton of drama to the series. So, get ready for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.

Vinland Saga Season 2

In July 2021, to commemorate 2 years of its anime television series release popular anime & manga franchise Vinland Saga announced the most awaiting news for its fans by confirming the second season of Vinland Saga is in production. A key visual centring Thorfinn was also released.

Vinland Saga Season 1 was produced by Studio WIT and it was considered one of the best anime of 2019. For the second season, the production house is not revealed yet and inside production reports are almost confirming that Vinland Saga Season 2 will be animated by Studio MAPPA however, fans await an official announcement.

Vinland Saga is a historical anime focused on the journey of a young enthusiastic boy, Thorfinn who lost his father at a very young age. To revenge for his father’s death, Thorfinn sails the ship of his enemy, Askeladd and travels alongside him to get a chance to kill him one day.

Hell’s Paradise

Hell’s Paradise is a horror-adventure fantasy shōnen manga written & illustrated by Yuji Kaku. The anime television adaptation of the series was announced in Jump Festa 2022 and a trailer was also released by MAPPA. Set in the Edo period of Japan, the series follows the journey of an extremely powerful and ruthless ninja assassin, Gabimaru.

After being betrayed by his comrades during a mission, Gabimaru is sentenced to be executed. But, due to his immense strength and unwavering willpower, no one succeeds in executing him. Seeing his absolute steadiness, he is sent on a mission to recover an elixir that grants immortality to the user.

In return, Gabimaru is promised to be released after the success of the mission. For this purpose, Gabimaru, along with the executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, is sent to a mysterious island called “Hell’s Paradise” where heaven and hell are just a hair’s breadth away.

Yuri!!! On Ice (Movie)

Yuri!!! On Ice is an anime television series about figure skating produced by MAPPA with original scripts by Mitsurō Kubo. Surprisingly, the anime had no source material and it was an original story. The series premiered in October 2016 and after a long time, a Yuri on Ice feature film titled ‘Ice Adolescence’ has been originally planned to release at a later date.

The show is about a figure skater, Yuri Katsuki who is given a lifetime opportunity to train with his idol, Victor Nikiforov as his coach. As a professional skater himself, Victor guides Yuri to achieve his dream of winning the Grand Prix series. The original scriptwriter Mitsurō Kubo highlighted the yaoi genre and homosexuality in this series as a key point which was later appreciated by the critics.

Kakegurui Twin

In November 2021, it was announced that the spin-off manga series of Kakegurui titled “Kakegurui Twin” will receive an original net anime (ONA) series adaptation which will premiere on Netflix in August 2022. The series production is being handled by Studio MAPPA itself which was also responsible for the original anime series.

Kakegurui Twin takes place a year before the events of the main series and the arrival of Yumeko Jabami at Hyakkaou Private Academy. The series focuses on transfer student Mary Saotome who learns about the school’s gambling system and quickly begins to adapt to it, which only causes Mary to succumb to the gambling mania that she comes to be known for.

Zombieland Saga (Movie)

Zombie Land Saga is an anime television series produced by MAPPA, Avex Pictures and Cygames. The first anime television series aired between October and December 2018. A second season titled Zombie Land Saga Revenge aired between April and June 2021 and, now an anime film project has also been announced.

The anime is set in the year 2008 and follows high school student Sakura Minamoto who is abruptly killed by a truck on the morning she plans to submit an idol application. Ten years later, Sakura, along with six “legendary” girls from various eras of Japan’s history, are brought back as zombies by a man named Kotaro Tatsumi, who seeks to revitalize Saga Prefecture by putting together an all-zombie idol group that would become known as Franchouchou.

Alice And Therese’s Illusion Factory

Studio MAPPA is good at surprising its well-wishers with an unanticipated project announcement and the same they did last year during the 10th anniversary of the studio. In June 2022, the studio released a trailer confirming that they will be in charge of an original anime film, Alice And Therese’s Illusion Factory, which will be released in the theatres.

The original script of the film is written by Mari Okada who will also serve as the director of the film. The film will tell the story of boys and girls struggling in an ambiguous world, as they fight their destiny with “love” as the weapon. An official release date is yet to be decided.
