Published by Gintoki on

The most hyped anime television series of the year or maybe a decade, Chainsaw Man is going to make a debut in 2022. After a long-lasting wait of over a year and several teases, Crunchyroll & Studio MAPPA finally held a Chainsaw Man anime panel at the Anime Expo 2022 where the makers of the series discussed about the production of the anime.

During the Chainsaw Man anime panel, the first anime teaser was shown to the attendees and after that, the guests of the event started to enter. Hiroshi Seko, the series composer, was joined by Manabu Otsuka, the CEO of MAPPA. Makoto Kimura joined as the executive director and managing director at MAPPA. Fans started chanting “Chainsaw Man!! Chainsaw Man!!”, check out the unreal hype below:

Later on, the panel host started a QnA session with the staff and the producers tried to answer as many questions as possible. Mappa CEO, Manabu Otaku revealed that he is a huge fan of Chainsaw Man manga and his favorite character from the series is Power. The complete QnA session with Chainsaw Man staff is as below:

Q: How was Chainsaw Man chosen for adaptation?

A: We started looking at Chainsaw Man right when manga debuted. Usually, with anime production, there’s something called a production committee, but this time we’re actually doing this 100% on our own.

Q: What points were considered while writing the script for Chainsaw Man anime?

A: We want to make sure everything is hardcore, no soft stuff!

Q: What’s the production structure to help make the anime?

A: The CEO is a huge fan of the manga. He wants to create an anime for himself and the fans that all can enjoy.

Q: How is Tatsuki Fujimoto involved in the production of the anime?

A: We are working very closely with him. We want this to be a representation of the original even down to the casting of the voice actors.

Q: How will the anime adapt to the intense and gore scenes of the series?

A: We always want to emphasize the rawness of the original and the realness of the images. We want it to be dynamic and theatrical. Simply put, no censorship!

Q: Was it difficult for the staff to transfer the wild pacing of the manga into the anime?

A: Keeping true to the original, we are trying to keep as close to the original, we may add more time to some scenes that have more impact.

On asking fans to cheer for their favorite character, the attendees started to bark making a “Woof Woof* reference from the manga on which the staff joked by saying that they will try to make use of it in future production. The producer also made a hilarious comment on Denji saying, “The energy of Denji comes from his raw needs, food and women”. He also added that Denji is his favorite character.

Sadly, there was no trailer or key visual at the end of the Chainsaw Man anime panel, and on asking when the new information on the series will be delivered the CEO of Mappa replied, “We really wanted to bring some news for us today, but we want it to be perfect before showing it to the fans”. The CEO added that more info will be revealed at Crunchyroll Expo on August 5-7.
