Demon Slayer Season 2 Budget For The Making Of Single Episode Is Way More Expensive

Published by Gintoki on

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was the most well-received series in 2020 & 2021. Since the release of the anime, the series is reaching new heights every year. And, with the release of the second season, it is back in business again. But, do you know how much it costs to produce a single episode of Demon Slayer?

The most crucial factor in the success of the Demon Slayer franchise is, its amusing animation. It’s just incredible & mind-blowing, and the viewers get amazed after seeing it. But, this beautiful & bright animation of Demon Slayer costs around US $80,000 – $90,000 (¥9-10 million) per episode.

Yes, eighty thousand bucks just for a single episode of Demon Slayer. For this amount, a student would be able to pay their lifetime loan. So, a 11 episode Season 2 of Demon Slayer will cost around US $880,000 – $990,000 which is pretty high as compared to other anime airing out there.

Even, the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie had a budget of US $15.8 million which was reflected in its 2D animation quality. However, the movie turned out to be a profitable move by Studio Ufotable as it earned an estimated total of US $504 million worldwide. Almost 30 times more than the initial production budget.

Now, the question arises how an episode can cost that much? Well, to be precise a lot of factors are involved in the making of a single episode. Everyone involved in the series gets paid for their hard work. This includes the animators, directors and the voice acting cast as well.

But, such an expensive production budget does not go in vain as it brings up a lot of profit for the franchise as well. According to reports, in 2020 alone, the Demon Slayer franchise generated an estimated annual sales revenue of 1 trillion yen ($8.75 billion), becoming one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

The numbers are staggering and it’s just the revenue of one year that simply clarifies why the Japanese production companies don’t shy to put their money in the big projects. And, eventually multiple new anime are released every single week.
