Detective Conan Inspires Young People to Become Police Officers

One of the longest-running anime series alongside “Dragon Ball” and “One Piece”, Detective Conan has become a household name in Japan, deeply ingrained in society. Thanks to its popularity, the crime mystery thriller is now inspiring countless young people to pursue careers in investigation and law enforcement.

Lately, Japan’s Metropolitan Police Department introduced an innovative approach to boost applications for its police officer recruitment exam. The department released a Detective Conan-themed pamphlet to attract new talent to the force.

The pamphlet includes detailed information about the recruitment process, featuring illustrations of characters from the beloved detective series. It is the first time anime characters have been used in an official police recruitment campaign.

A department representative stated, “It’s an anime that appeals to a wide range of age groups, so we hope it will spark interest in police work.” The initiative comes in response to a 40% decline in recruitment exam applicants over the past decade.

Since the pamphlet’s release, many aspiring officers have applied because of “Conan.” Additionally, the appearance of the popular character Amuro Toru on the pamphlet has significantly increased visits to the public security section of the recruitment website.

However, this isn’t the first time Detective Conan has been used to influence public behavior. In 2006, the Japanese government launched a campaign using Conan to promote crime awareness among children. Similarly, in 2010, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs published two Conan-themed pamphlets to promote the 34th G8 summit.
