Studio MAPPA has made its reputation throughout the industry with its outstanding and remarkable work towards anime. In the past few years, MAPPA has blessed the fans with some awesome anime shows that we can’t even imagine.

Jujutsu Kaisen, AOT Season 4, Kakegurui and many others like that entertained the audience with top-notch visuals and great direction that can only be done by a production house like MAPPA. But, despite all these achievements, which are the best anime from MAPPA in the past decade? Quite interesting to know, but first, let’s take a look at MAPPA’s journey till now.

MAPPA was established in the year 2011 by Masao Maruyama, a founder and former producer of Madhouse. Those who don’t know, MAPPA is an acronym for “Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association”. This year in June MAPPA celebrated its 10th anniversary and announced future projects as well.

And, in this article, we’ll take a look at some of the best anime from Studio MAPPA that shocked the entire anime fandom with its amazing visuals.

The God Of Highschool

The God of Highschool is a South Korean manhwa written & illustrated by Yongje Park. After positive reviews on this webtoon, MAPPA adapted this series into an anime in 2020 and from there the studio showed the audience, what it is capable of.

God of Highschool didn’t make it to the expectation of the webtoon readers due to a change of storyline in the anime and many fans discarded it. But, everyone appreciated the work of MAPPA for providing the fans with amazing fight scenes and an energetic soundtrack.

The God of Highschool is a series about a young boy, Mori Jin who participates in a martial arts battle of high-school students to decide who’s the strongest in South Korea. Along with his companions, Daewi Han and Mira Yoo, he proves his worth in this competition among other talented players.

Dorohedoro

Dorohedoro is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Q Hayashida. The Anime adaptation of Dorohedoro was broadcasted in March 2020 and in May it streamed on the well-known platform of Netflix for worldwide fans.

Dorohedoro is set in a post-apocalyptic future, taking place across three distinct realms. It tells the story of the amnesiac reptilian-headed Caiman, working together with his friend Nikaido to recover his memories and survive in a strange and violent world.

Takt Op. Destiny

Takt Op. Destiny is set in a post-apocalyptic America in the year 2047. For this series, MAPPA is collaborating with another big giant of the anime industry, Madhouse. The first two episodes of Takt Op. Destiny is premiered now and it looks quite promising anime of October 2021.

One day, a black meteorite fells from the sky which creates a type of monster called D2. These weird monsters start rampaging the cities and bans every source of music, that is the only way weakness of them. But, there are still some young women left who holds the power of music, the “Musicart”. And to lead them there are people known as “Conductor”.

Takt, a Conductor, is partnered with a Musicart named Unmei. Takt yearns for music to be returned to the world, and Unmei wishes to destroy the D2. They aim to travel to New York.

Kakegurui

Kakegurui is a thrilling anime based on the theme of gambling and student life. The show aired for the first time in 2017 and it was loved by the audience for its mind-blowing animation. The show also got criticised for its intoxicating plot and sexualized characters.

Kakegurui centres on a prestigious high school, Hyakkaou Private Academy where students go to learn and explore life. But, it all happens only in the daytime because, at night, the school becomes a mini spot for gambling and the one who wins is respected by the other students.

Yumeko Jabami, a beautiful transfer student tries her hand at this special curriculum of the school. But, unlike others, she doesn’t play to win, but to bring some thrill and excitement to the table taking gambling to a next level.

Terror In Resonance

Studio MAPPA is famous for its fine music and visuals which makes it special from others and Terror in Resonance is one such anime having these two qualities.

Being a psychological thriller anime it dives deeper into the problems faced by modern society and the consequences caused by a terror attack on a child’s mentality.

Terror in Resonance is a story about two brothers, Nine and Twelve who are the survivors of a secret experiment that turns orphan children into a human weapons. In a terror attack, they get their hands on a prototype atomic bomb. Disguising themselves as “Sphinx” they threaten to destroy Tokyo city unless a cryptic riddle can be solved.

Dororo

Another popular anime from Studio MAPPA, Dororo is set in the Sengoku period of Japan and it tells the story of a Rōnin, Hyakkimaru and a child thief, Dororo.

The dark theme and rough visuals including the fast-paced fighting scenes make Dororo an anime to watch. Smooth and clean moves during fights and some horrible bloodshed moments are something a fan should not miss.

After seeing his land in turmoil, Daigo the ruler makes a deal with 12 demons to prosper his land once again and in return take anything from him. After the birth of Daigo’s first child, the demons devour his body parts including the limbs, eyes and ears.

Somehow, this child survives and is later known as Hyakkimaru. Being accompanied by Dororo, he sets on a mission to take all his body parts back from the demons and turn normal like he was once.

Banana Fish

Banana Fish is a crime suspense thriller anime series produced by Studio MAPPA. The anime is adapted from the manga series with the same name written & illustrated by Akimi Yoshida.

Banana Fish is a story about a 17-year-old gang leader in New York City, Ash Lynx. One day he comes across an unknown man who gives him a street address & a mysterious substance and dies in his hands by murmuring two words, “Banana Fish”- the same words Ash heard from his old brother after he returned from Iraq.

After this incident, Ash starts investigating the “Banana Fish” and comes to know about Japanese photojournalist Sunichi Ibe and his assistant Eiji Okumura. But, in an attack by a rival gang, one of Ash’s subordinate, Skip and the journalist gets abducted by the opposite gang.

Now, with the help of Eiji Okumura, Ash tries to solve the mystery behind the “Banana Fish”, besides rescuing his friends from the enemy hideout as well.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is the most popular manga series currently which is breaking the records every week and stands top on the tally of most manga sales in 2021. Half of its credit goes to MAPPA for adapting this series into an anime.

Last year, in October, MAPPA took the project of Jujutsu Kaisen and it surpassed the expectations of the fans by providing the fans with a brilliant piece of work. They made the anime viral and as a result the manga sales graph also experienced a jump in its curve.

Jujutsu Kaisen is based on the sorcery world and it follows the story of Yuji Itadori who accidentally eats the finger of the most vicious cursed spirit, Ryomen Sukuna. After this incident, he is transferred to Jujutsu Tech where he learns the techniques of sorcery under the guidance of invincible Gojo Satoru.

Luckily, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will also be produced by Studio MAPPA as per speculations and moreover, in December we will get to see the Jujutsu Kaisen movie as a Christmas gift from MAPPA.

Attack On Titan Season 4

When Studio WIT dropped the project of Attack on Titan after Season 3 everyone was stressed and confused about the future of the series. Anime fans were in awe about who will animate such a classic shōnen anime series and then Studio MAPPA came forward.

At first, fans were a little bit suspicious and tensed about the work of MAPPA but everyone got shocked when the first episode of Attack On Titan Season 4 premiered. Some fans were still not happy with the CGI quality, but even after that MAPPA pulled the show successfully and deliberately.

Attack On Titan Season 4 took a time-lapse in the AOT realm which was a challenging task for MAPPA to do. The series continued after the Shinganshina war which showed many twists in the plot.

Survey Corps and Eren Yeager went to Marley to destroy the enemy and now things are very complicated which will be elaborated more clearly in the upcoming final part of Attack On Titan Season 4.

Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man, the most hyped and talked anime series of this year. Not a single day goes by when fans don’t ask for a release date of Chainsaw Man anime and it will break the internet for sure when MAPPA will launch the series.

In this list, Chainsaw Man is the only anime MAPPA hasn’t done yet but still it deserves to be here because of the unexceptional craze towards this series. In June 2021, MAPPA released a teaser for the anime which was broadcasted live on YouTube, and fans watched the entire 5-hours long live event without the subtitles just for Chainsaw Man. That’s the level of craze.

Chainsaw Man is a story about a very poor boy, Denji who lives a pathetic life with his only friend, Pochita. They both work together to earn some money and fulfill their daily needs. Denji dreams of living a normal life and dying in the arms of a beautiful girl.

His ambition to get out of the miserable life pushes him so hard that one-day Denji encounters such a difficult job that leads him to the world of darkness and transforms him into a Chainsaw devil.
