Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Earns Over $17 Million On U.S. Box Office In Its First Weekend

After dominating the Japanese box office for a continuous three months, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has finally set its foot on the North American turf. The movie is showing quite remarkable progress in its first few days of the release and is holding its position strongly. In its first weekend, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 collected a whopping amount of over US$17 million across the United States theatres.

The film opened on Friday, March 17 and collected an estimated total of US$5.79 million across 2,340 theatres on its opening day. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 went on to add another US$5.49 million on Saturday and US$3.55 million on Sunday making its box-office tally reach a total of US$17.7 million domestically (including the US$2.88 million from Thursday previews).

As reported by the US box office, the film racked up an average of US$6,482 per screen at 2,286 locations. This performance helped Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to earn the second spot domestically placing it right behind only Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Batman”.

Although, it fell short of the highest-grossing anime movie of all time “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” which stunned the North American audience with its release way back in April 2021. Mugen Train film opening weekend collection on U.S. box-office was estimated to be around US$21.2 million.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is being distributed in the region by Crunchyroll and as of now, the film has earned over US$148.3 million internationally. The film also became the highest-earning film at the Japanese box office from the 2021 calendar year, after surpassing Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

Directed by Sunghoo Park at Studio MAPPA, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is enjoying a full run release with limited event style screenings, including Japanese-subtitled and English-dubbed versions, across a variety of screens in the U.S. Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and European countries.
