One Piece Animator Humbles AI Artist On Social Media
With the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in the modern world, AI-powered animation has taken over the industry. Being able to deliver high-quality visuals and streamline production processes, many companies have embraced this technology, integrating automated elements into their projects to enhance efficiency and output.
However, a recent incident involving an animator of the popular anime “One Piece” has caused quite a stir. The controversy erupted on X (formerly Twitter) when a generative AI expert, Óscar Bartolomé, shared an AI-generated image of the series protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy.
Following the tweet, the AI artist went on to rant that he could do the job better than the animators working on the show. However, it didn’t take much time for the artist to be humbled by one of the animators of One Piece who silenced him on social media and called him an “idiot”.
José B. Rebolledo, who is a long-time animator of One Piece anime, took to social media only to point out a small error in the poorly made Monkey D. Luffy graphic. But, the AI artist didn’t appreciate it and instead mocked the animator by saying, “Not even in your dreams would you be able to make an illustration like this”.
In response, Rebolledo countered by affirming his role as an animator for the original One Piece anime and shut the AI artist. The dispute garnered attention on X, eliciting varied responses from fans with some hailing the One Piece animator as their hero and appreciating the “cooking” by him.
The poorly illustrated Monkey D. Luffy graphic by the AI artist got so many critical responses that he had to delete the tweet. Notably, this exchange serves as a reminder that even though technological advancements have paved the way, the human touch remains an integral part of the creative process.
