One Piece Live Action Season 2 Likely To Air In A Year, Says Producer
Netflix’s current big installment, which is based on Eiichiro Oda’s bestselling manga “One Piece”, has been making waves in the community since its debut on the platform. The live-action series opened on Netflix as #1 around a record-breaking 93 countries, knocking on the doors of the producers to renew it for a second season.
Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios (studio behind “One Piece” live-action) while talking to Variety confirmed that a possible Season 2 of the Strawhat Pirates journey is right on the way as she states, “We’ve got scripts ready”.
Tomorrow Studios president Becky Clements further informs about the release window and the production issues caused by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP. However, she adds that once they’re allowed to get going again, One Piece Live Action Season 2 could launch as early as next year.
“I think [Netflix is] looking at various situations about how many episodes they do, do they break them up? I suspect we’ll hear from them in the next week to two weeks. There seems to be a big impetus to keep this going and to come up with a long-term strategy. So we’re just waiting for that”, Adelstein added.
While Netflix hasn’t responded to these claims or anything about the renewal, it can be assumed that One Piece Live Action Season 2 is just an official announcement away. The series is already doing wonders and has amassed 18.5 million views with over 140 million watch hours on its first four days of the launch.
Moreover, it also ranked No. 1 on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list of the English-language TV series while being on top in over 90 countries beating the previous record holders “Wednesday” and “Stranger Things”. A word on a Season 2 has not yet arrived from the higher authorities but Adelstein and Clements say all signs point to a pickup at the moment.
