TikTok ban uproar in the United States is at an all-time high, with judges and the government actively involved in the matter. Amid the chaos surrounding the social media app, bad news has also arrived for anime-game enthusiasts with the ban of the official One Punch Man game.
Shanghai Moonton Technology, the developers of the “One-Punch Man: The Strongest” smartphone game, released a notice on Saturday announcing that the game would end its service on January 19. Shortly after the announcement, the game was removed from Android and iOS platforms.
“Dear Players, We regret to inform you that One Punch Man: The Strongest will be closed on January 19, 2025. We understand this may be disappointing. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your support. It has been a remarkable journey, and we’re thankful to have shared it with you,” the company stated in their notice.
The removal of the One Punch Man game from all platforms in the U.S. is tied to a recent Supreme Court mandate requiring Chinese app developers, including ByteDance (the parent company of TikTok), to divest ownership of their platforms.
As ByteDance owns the game’s developer, the new regulations applied to it as well, leading the company to shut down its servers. While TikTok’s online services have since been restored, the One Punch Man mobile RPG remains offline.
