The series centers on Kimihito Kurusu, a Japanese student whose life is thrown into turmoil after getting chosen by the government to participate in the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange” program.

The program allows non-human creatures, known as “monster girls”, to live in Japan alongside humans. Kurusu is initially reluctant to participate, but he eventually agrees to take in Miia, a snake-like lamia. As more monster girls come to live with Kurusu, he finds himself in the middle of a harem of different species.

Struggling yet brilliant 19-year-old Minato Sahashi fails his college entrance exams for the second time, resulting in him being regarded as worthless. However, the course of his seemingly bleak future is altered dramatically when a beautiful, supernatural woman named Musubi comes into his life. 

Recognizing the potential within the seemingly insignificant youth, Musubi kisses the bewildered Minato, initiating a bond between the two of them. This drags him into the high-stakes world of the Sekirei, where he and his new partner must compete against others in a battle for survival called the “Sekirei Plan”.

The common cliché of harem trope is that they all are set around the modern-day world however, Date A Live gives a tour of its post-apocalyptic themed story. The series begins with a strange phenomenon called a “spatial quake”, resulting in mass casualties.

The anime sees Shido Itsuka, a high school student who teams up with his little sister to deal with the danger posed by the “Spirits” – an otherworldly entity causing spatial quakes. However, the only way out for Shido is to make the Spirits fall in love with him.

6. To Love-Ru

Breaking the stereotype of the shōnen genre, To Love-Ru explores the harem culture with tons of fan service in between. The series chronicles Rito Yuuki, a high school student who accidentally gets engaged to the alien princess Lala Satalin Deviluke.

Despite their initial animosity, Raku and Chitoge try to get along for the sake of maintaining the city’s peace. With many more girls popping up in his life, all involved with Raku’s past somehow, he must navigate the challenges of love, friendship, and his family’s expectations.

Rent-A-Girlfriend is a cult hit among the fans of the romantic and harem anime genre. Featuring an adorable cast of beautiful girls, the story sees the exploits of Kazuya who decides to use an online dating app to rent a girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara after being dumped by his girlfriend.

In an attempt to make an impression on his family and friends, Kazuya continues renting Chizuru but things get complicated when they discover they are next-door apartment neighbors and attend the same college. A Certain Magical Index is a highly recommended magic school anime set in a world brimming with psychic powers and espers. The story focuses on Touma Kamijou, a high school boy with the lowest psychic rank who has the ability to negate other supernatural abilities.

One day, he encounters Index, a young nun who has memorized the entirety of the forbidden grimoires, and now a dangerous organization is hunting her down. Kamijou must defend his new companion at all costs as he discovers a strange new realm of the supernatural.

2. Quintessential Quintuplets

Quintessential Quintuplets is a critically hit harem anime known for its great rendition of a colorful cast and humor in between. The series centers on Futaro Uesugi, a hard-working high school student who is hired as a private tutor for a group of identical quintuplets.

At first, the Nakano sisters despise Uesugi but begin to like him after a couple of visits. The more time he spends with the girls, the closer he seems to become to each of them and soon Uesugi finds himself in a romantic situation hard to resist!
