Racism in the anime medium is not something new and for a very long time, fictional characters have been portrayed around this subject. In fact, there are tons of fantasy series that go beyond the subtle narration to justify their take on some of the most racist anime characters.

Racism can either be in the form of prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity. But, in today’s article, we’ll try to cover all sorts of discrimination that are generally imposed upon by racist persona. So, without any further ado, let’s get started.

10. Millions Knives – Trigun

Millions Knives is the main antagonist of Trigun and the older twin brother of Vash the Stampede. Knives hatred towards humans is immeasurable to the extent that once he attempted to destroy a ship fleet so that humans would not colonize his home planet.

Knives’ cruel and sadistic character against earthlings comes from the fact that they were responsible for performing experiments on his older sister which led to her death. Even though Knives despises humans, he still retains a brotherly relationship with Vash who always shows favoritism towards the humans.

9. Power – Chainsaw Man

Power is a narcissistic, self-centered, pathological liar, and an unhygienic brat who only cares about herself. Being a fiend, she utterly distrusts humans and is more than willing to throw people under the bus.

She sees humans as lower than her and most of the time, she boasts her superiority over her fellow devil hunters. In fact, she even thinks of several ways of making humans kneel and suffer. Even though these traits justify her character, it also makes her a part of a racist anime characters cult.

8. Danzo Shimura – Naruto

If using children as scapegoats or hiring criminals is an art then Danzo Shimura is the Picasso of it. One can argue he wasn’t a racist and did things in the interests of the village but his huge role in Uchiha genocide and Shisui’s death doesn’t justify this claim.

Later on, he went on to use Uchiha’s history as an excuse to have them slaughtered so he could capitalize on their power. Truly enough Danzo isn’t shown anywhere directly pointing out the Uchiha clan but he didn’t either try to clear the names of clan members despite knowing everything!

7. Adolf Hitler – Fullmetal Alchemist

Adolf Hitler is not a part of the original anime run of Fullmetal Alchemist but he certainly has a minor villain role in the movie “Conqueror of Shamballa”. Known for his war atrocities, Hitler was the catalyst for World War II and killed millions of Jews, Romas, and anyone else who stood in his way.

He was extremely racist toward other ethnic groups and was the self-proclaimed leader of the “Aryan Race”, a race he considered to be the supreme ethnic group in the world. Anyone who opposed his Aryan World ideology was either eliminated or became a victim of the Holocaust.

6. Suguru Geto – Jujutsu Kaisen

Humans love watching anime but racist anime characters dislike humans, weird dynamics! Suguru Geto hated non-sorcerers, usually referring to them as “monkeys”. He found non-sorcerers disgusting enough to spray himself in order to disinfect the “monkey stench”.

In the past, his repulsion towards humans led him to massacre over a hundred civilians in a single night. Geto believed that sorcerers are the superior race and humanity’s next stage of evolution. Besides, he felt by eradicating all of them he’ll do a favor on humanity.

5. Nina Einstein – Code Geass

Calling Nina a racist would be bad for her reputation as she’s more of a xenophobic, meaning people who dislike people from other countries. Nina’s racist mindset is never fully explained in the anime but she has an incredible fear and feeling of helplessness when faced by Japanese people.

Nina was once a victim of an assault by the Japanese which caused her to develop hatred against them. She is sometimes even outright racist towards them and later releases this rage by inventing the F.L.E.I.J.A. that causes the death of 25 million people during the Second Assault on Tokyo Settlement.

4. Tobirama Senju – Naruto

Tobirama was the biggest critic of the Uchiha clan as according to him they were a potential threat to Konoha Village. As Hokage, he politically kept Uchiha away from the village and provided them with an occupation that doesn’t seem fit in a militaristic society.

To top it off, Tobirama called their clan a place possessed by an evil power and used this as an excuse to deem them lesser. However, the fact can’t be ignored that Tobirama had a “racist friend”, Kagami Uchiha, who he trusted with his guts. But, it won’t make him any less of the top racist anime characters.

3. Celestial Dragons – One Piece

One Piece is filled with tales of racism and discrimination, including the arrogant and self-righteous Celestial Dragons Being at the top of the World Government, they constantly abuse their power and look down on the people of lower status than them, referring to them as commoners.

Not only do they publicize slavery in broad daylight, but they also refuse to breathe the same air as “lesser beings”, so they wear air helmets whenever they leave Mary Geoise. The Celestial Dragons consider themselves the Gods who created this world and in their eyes, everyone must bow to their whims of them.

2. Frieza – Dragon Ball

Frieza is the epitome of racist anime characters and there’s no doubt about it! Clashing with his archnemesis Goku and his allies seems fine to a point when he decides to call them by the derogatory slur “monkey” based on the fact that the Saiyan race has tails.

Even though they are obviously higher-level of beings than animals, Frieza refuses to acknowledge them as anything more than filthy monkeys. At one point, Frieza didn’t even hesitate to call the deities “colorful brats” which shows his sadistic and megalomaniacal nature.

1. The Baby – Monster

The Baby’s personality could at best be described as excessively eccentric, and at worst mercurially xenophobic and violent. After capturing Tenma, he expressed nothing but disgust for his perceived racial inferiority and mercilessly beat him with a pool stick.

In a similar way, he showed no pity or remorse for attempting to burn down the Turkish Quarter, in spite of the presence of hundreds of innocents. Instead, he expressed paramount disappointment when his scheme failed and his “dinner” was ruined.
