Zatchbell Return Confirmed By The Author! Brand New Sequel This Year
The 2000s critically acclaimed shōnen series, Zatchbell is on its way to returning this year. After 15 years of wait, the keen fans of this franchise will be delighted to hear this. The manga writer & creator of the series, Makoto Raiku on Saturday confirmed this news with a brand new teaser.
On his personal Twitter account, Makoto Raiku announced that a follow-up series officially titled “Zatch Bell! 2” is on the way. The series will launch on various digital book services in mid-March. A precise date has not been decided yet. Check out the original tweet from the author below.
However, Raiku didn’t specify exactly when this manga sequel will be available for the fans or what exactly the story could be, but the news that a follow-up is coming is a reason enough for long-time fans to rejoice. He will announce the precise launch date when it is decided.
Originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday, Zatch Bell! is Raiku’s most successful manga to date. The manga series started serialization in 2001 and ended in 2007. Shogakukan published 33 compiled book volumes for the series. Viz Media released the first 25 volumes of the manga in North America before discontinuing the title.
Zatch Bell! was immensely popular during its original run in 2001 and 2007. It was so successful that the manga-inspired a 150-episode anime adaptation, video games, and animated theatrical movies. Toonami aired 77 episodes of the anime while Viz Media released the first 100 episodes of the series through DVD compilations, and the same episodes are available in Crunchyroll.
The original series follows the story of Kiyomaro Takamine, a brilliant junior high student whose inflated ego has made him a major target for teasing at school. So his father sends him a bizarre birthday present – a strange little boy named Zatch – to help him make friends and reform his bad attitude.
Zatch brings with him a mysterious red volume of spells, and Kiyomaro discovers that Zatch has magic powers that are unleashed by reading from the book! But there are more surprises to come, and Kiyomaro’s destiny is about to change forever!
