My Dress-Up Darling Author Cried While Watching The Anime For Straight 13 Hours
My Dress-Up Darling has proved itself to be the best anime of this winter. The series has been applauded by many fans and is gaining popularity with a massive speed. However, on asking about the success of this rom-com story, the author commented that she cried while watching the anime adaptation.
Recently, Comic Natalie conducted an interview with Shinichi Fukuda, the author of My Dress-Up Darling, to commemorate the anime broadcast of the series. During the interview, My Dress-Up Darling author revealed that she watched the first two episodes of the anime continuously for 13 hours straight.
Fukuda mentioned that she never expected the series to get adapted into an anime and get so popular. She was so happy after watching the first two episodes that she ended up crying with emotion. The author admitted that nothing had made her more happy or joyful in her life as a manga artist.
I received the first and second episodes of the complete packet of the anime and watched them. Everything was so good that I cried with emotion… I watched it over and over again for a total of 13 hours, so happy and joyful that I have never been happier in my life as a manga artist.
The author also admitted that she loved the animation of My Dress-Up Darling so much that she ended up pre-ordering the Blu-ray discs fairly early. When asked about her favorite scene from the anime, the author said, “I like everything about the anime. I like the main story, the opening, the ending, everything”.
Fukuda further added that if she had known about the anime adaptation beforehand she would have made a simpler outfit for Shizuku making it a little less burdensome for animators to adapt. Although, the dress looks quite pretty and wonderful in the anime.
The author also praised the voice acting cast of My Dress-Up Darling especially Hina Suguta and Ishige Shouya, who voice the main characters Marin Kitagawa and Gojo Wakana respectively, saying she was very glad that the two of them voiced the characters.
At the end of the interview, Fukuda thanked the fans for reading the manga, saying it was because of them that the anime adaption of the series was possible. “To those of you who read the original work, thank you for everything. Thanks to all of you, we were able to have the anime made. And thanks to all of you who are propagating it, many people are reading it,” she added.
My Dress-Up Darling is a rom-com manga series written & illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda. It began serialization in Jan 2018 and has been compiled into eight volumes as of October 2021. An anime television series by CloverWorks premiered in January 2022 and as of now, the manga had more than 5 million copies in circulation.
