Top 10 Powerful Anime Characters Who Limit Their Powers Intentionally
Being the most powerful being in your own universe is pretty amazing as it gives you an advantage over others. But, not everyone likes to walk around showing off their prowess and skills to others especially these anime characters who limit their powers just because they don’t want to scare somebody with their total dominance.
But the question arises why they limit themselves after all they’re the strongest so what’s the need? Anime characters who limit their powers have a wide range of reasons for making that choice. Some like Mob suppress their powers so that they won’t hurt someone else while others like Kenpachi and Rock Lee limit themselves to make their fights more challenging.
Being the best is excellent but sometimes it’s better to limit the power and in this article, we’ll take a look at such anime characters who limit their powers for their own good. So, without any further ado let’s get started.
10. Fumikage Tokoyami from ‘My Hero Academia’
Fumikage is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High school. He desires to be a pro hero and has the potential to become one as well. His quirk allows him to manifest a sentient, shadowy being from his body that he can control & use in combat scenarios as well as for safety. However, there is one major drawback of his power.
In the light, his Dark Shadow is more docile and is pretty much controllable. But, in the darkness, Fumikage lost control over his Dark Shadow as it becomes extremely powerful, chaotic and destructive making it difficult for Fumikage to give commands. As a result, he seems particularly cautious when using Dark Shadow.
He restrains himself from using his quirk in dark areas due to the possibility and likelihood of harming others unintentionally. He does, however, also strive to have better control of these drawbacks and also works on his strengths in conjunction to further better himself.
9. Orsted from ‘Mushoku Tensei’
Orsted is undisputedly known as the strongest man to have ever lived in the isekai world of Mushoku Tensei. Amongst all the characters in the series, Orsted is only bested by Demon God Laplace. His overwhelming power made him a member of the Seven Great World Powers. At the very first encounter, he defeated the hero Rudeus with no effort.
He has achieved God Rank in every school of magic and also possesses the strongest sword in existence known as the “God Sword.” However, due to a bunch of curses bestowed upon Orsted, his mana consumption is limited which in result restricts him to use full abilities in the battle. But, that doesn’t change the fact that he is truly the definition of the strongest.
8. Hiei from ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’
Hiei is one of the most dangerous beings when he unleashes his powers to their full limit. All his powers are restored in his Jagan Eye which is the key to some of his strongest techniques, but he usually keeps it covered with a headband. Furthermore, he wears bandages on his arm in order to suppress his Dragon of the Darkness Flame.
If Hiei will not put limits on his powers, then his powers go out of control wrecking everything around him, and even taking the lives of people who come in its contact. However, the use of these powers causes him serious physical damage as there are several bruises on his arm and it gets totally damaged after using Dragon of the Darkness Flame. So, he uses it only when it’s an absolute necessity.
7. Rock Lee from ‘Naruto’
Rock Lee doesn’t look like a stylish ninja and follows a strict routine to make himself stronger. As part of his intense training, he wears weights on his legs. While most shinobi wear light ones for basic conditioning, Rock Lee wears relatively such heavy weights that they can even break the ground when they fall freely on it.
Even with that much weight, he’s a great ninja and is ridiculously strong & fast, but the fans witnessed his true strength when he took them off during the battle with Gaara. He was roaming around in the stadium so fast that it was impossible for the human eye to track him. A powerful opponent like Gaara, felt discomfort by the incredible speed of Lee.
6. Alucard from ‘Hellsing’
The world of Hellsing is pretty dark and wild, especially its main protagonist who gives chills to the viewer. Alucard is hailed to be the most powerful vampire alive. He possesses a variety of abilities like immortality, invisibility, supernatural power, regeneration, blood & weather manipulation techniques and many more things that makes him the toughest opponent.
But, he can’t use his powers to their fullest because of the Cromwell seal on his gloves which acts as a restraint. The powers he has gained are from both his being a Vampire and due to several years of research by the Hellsing Organization. Even with the limits, Alucard is an extremely formidable and deadly opponent who can cut down most supernatural enemies without releasing the seals that contain his true power.
5. Gojo Satoru from ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’
Satoru Gojo is a Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer and a teacher at Jujutsu Tech. In the history of the sorcery world, Gojo is supposed to be the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer ever existed and is invincible in terms of strength & power. He has a lot of abilities which include limitless cursed energy, infinity, Hollow purple and unlimited void.
However, that are not the only things he has got as there is one more thing special about him that is always hidden under his blindfolds. Yes, you guessed it right, the Six Eyes! The reason why he always wears blindfolds lies in two facts – one because his eyes are very pretty and second, because his Six Eyes are very dangerous. What he does is just half of his powers, as after unleashing his eyes he becomes unmatchable.
4. Kenpachi Zaraki from ‘Bleach’
The squad captain of the 11th division within the Gotei 13, Kenpachi Zaraki is one hell of a fighter who likes to enjoy the thrill of a challenging battle. He is hailed to be the most bloodthirsty and vicious soul reaper in the Soul Society. Because of his high spiritual energy, he uses multiple limiters to reduce his strength.
The most notable one is the parasitic eye patch which he wears on his right eye that devours his life force. In addition, he wears small bells on the ends of his spiky hairs that are audible only if the opponent is strong enough to hear them. And, without any of these limitations, Kenpachi is an absolute beast on the battlefield.
3. Shigeo Kageyama from ‘Mob Psycho 100’
Shigeo Kageyama best known as ‘Mob’ is one of the most silent & calm protagonists who rarely expresses himself. Despite his plain look, Mob was born with supernatural psychic powers which enabled him to do a variety of things. At a very young age, he learned that his powers were too strong to leave unchecked and would result in other people being harmed.
As a result, Mob decided to limit his powers by keeping his emotions in check to prevent his powers from reaching 100% because after exceeding the certain limit he loses his control and turns into a maniac destroying everything in his vision. He becomes so overpowered that taking him down is almost impossible which is why it’s necessary for him to limit his powers as hard as he can.
2. Saiki Kusuo from ‘Disastrous Life of Saiki K’
This is hard to believe that the anime characters who limit their powers come from the comedy genre as well and Saiki Kusuo is one among them. He is one of the most overpowered anime characters, but he doesn’t seem to be happy about it at all. At a very young age, he acquired psychic powers but, in reality, all he wants is to live an ordinary life. And, that’s why he limits his powers so that it won’t cause much problem for him.
His outfit looks a bit different from other students but there are reasons behind it. He wears special glasses to avoid turning everybody around him into stone. The two antennas on his head are for controlling his limitless powers so that he wouldn’t accidentally destroy the world in his sleep. Even after all these restrictions, he’s still very strong but as a caution, he manages his powers sustainably.
1. Saitama from ‘One Punch Man’
Number one on the list of anime characters who limit their powers is Saitama from One Punch Man. Initially, he was an average human being living his day-to-day life but after going through intense training he completely transformed into a superhuman. Although, he doesn’t appear to be a strong being, but his monstrous strength & speed demonstrates it all.
Saitama doesn’t require too much hard work to beat someone as all it takes for him to defeat his enemy is, a punch. So, out of boredom he never uses his full strength. The only time he gave a demonstration of it was during the fight with Boros where it took him quite a while to annihilate the enemy. But, apart from that, he always restrains himself from using his full energy.
