Fatherhood is one of the most blessed moments for any man who becomes a dad for the first time. The significance of being a father is inexpressible and fathers all around the globe know this feeling very well. But, not every man turns out to be a good father right especially the anime one and there are several examples of the worst anime dads in history.

There are some seriously dysfunctional anime dads out there who proved themselves the worst parent in every possible way. Whether they ran away from their responsibilities or transformed their kid against their will into man-eating monsters, bad parenting in anime is common. So, without further ado, let’s get started with the list.

10. Ging Freecss – Hunter × Hunter

Ging Freecss embodies those parents who abandon their children at a very early age. Even though Ging is regarded as one of the unrivaled Hunters in the diverse world of “Hunter × Hunter” however, his skills as a father leave much to be desired.

Instead of Gon being his priority, Ging chose his passion over his son. He ran away from responsibilities to pursue his ambitions, and even when Gon finally finds him, he doesn’t want anything to do with him which just shows how terrible of a father he is.

9. Gendo Ikari – Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion is widely known for shaping the mecha anime genre as we know it today. For the most part, the series displays the emotional turmoil of Shinji caused by his dictatorial father who sacrificed his son in an effort to bring his wife back to life.

Gendo is so focused on trying to reunite with his dead wife that he doesn’t even care about Shinji’s well-being and treats him as a mere tool. The only thing Shinji got from his father during his upbringing was just a few vague insults and utter negligence.

8. Endeavor – My Hero Academia

Enji Todoroki, better known by his hero epithet “Endeavor”, is a Pro Hero and the father of four. The befitting title of worst anime dads perfectly suits Endeavor as he only saw his children as glorified science projects living only to carry out his ambitions.

Obsessed with being the world’s number one hero, he alienated himself from most of his own family members and turned cold shoulders towards his children, especially Shoto and Toya. Needless to say, Endeavor was an awful and abusive father.

7. Vinsmoke Judge – One Piece

Over the course of the series, One Piece has brought about dozens of elements to the surface and the trope of worst anime dads has also come into the picture. Sadly, the jolly and cheerful crew member of Strawhat Pirates, Vinsmoke Sanji was a victim of it. 

The ruler of the Germa Kingdom, Vinsmoke Judge disowned Sanji just because he was incompetent and weak. He never acknowledged his son’s culinary skills and called him an “utter waste of space and air” which brought Sanji to tears.

6. Grisha Yeager – Attack On Titan

Eren started off as an innocent and kind kid but later turned into a genocide, all thanks to his father’s best efforts in making him one. Obsessed with his goal of taking down Marley and restoring Eldia, Grisha put his own ideals ahead of the health and well-being of his kids.

He willingly groomed his first son, Zeke, to become a spy in the military and burdened his second son, Eren, with the powers of a Titan shifter. Grisha emotionally neglected both his children as if he had no qualms about using them as tools for the Eldian Restoration.

5. Toji Fushiguro – Jujutsu Kaisen

Toji Fushiguro is considered one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, earning him the title of “Sorcerer Killer”. Before turning into a notorious assassin who spends his time gambling, Toji was a happily married person with a little son and daughter.

However, he wasn’t an ideal husband or father. Soon after his marriage, Toji left his wife just as quickly, leaving his newborn child behind, and eventually forgot his name. He even planned on selling Megumi to the Zenin family, until his final moments.

4. Kagemitsu Daigo – Dororo

Kagemitsu Daigo sets the bar for worst anime fathers too high by giving a life worse than hell to his son, Hyakkimaru. Desperate for power and wealth, he sacrificed his newborn son’s vital organs and made a deal with demons in exchange for the prosperity of his land.

As a result, Hyakkimaru is born without limbs, eyes, nose, ears, and even skin. The worst part of all? Daigo abandons him by the river and leaves him to die in the wilderness. If not for Daigo’s greed Hyakkimaru would have lived a normal life far from pain and agony.

3. Shou Tucker – Fullmetal Alchemist

Sewing-Life Alchemist, Shou Tucker is renowned for his knowledge regarding alchemy, chimeras, and biology. At first, he comes off as a soft-spoken and kind father however, the acts he did to save his neck from the government exhibit his horrible side.

When the State threatened to revoke his license due to a lack of scientific breakthroughs, he not only transformed his wife but also his little daughter into a living chimera. Shou’s inhuman scrutiny has cemented his status as the worst anime father.

2. Gambino – Berserk

Gambino was a man who was easily angered, careless, and prone to get drunk. When his wife died of the plague, he took Guts under his shade and trained him to fight by employing every form of abuse against him that Gambino could possibly think up.

Being Guts foster father, he showed absolutely no love to him and forced him to act as a child soldier. He even rented him out as a child prostitute for one night only to make a profit out of his body. Gambino in every possible way proved him to be a horrible father.

1. Charles zi Britannia – Code Geass

The emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire and the father of Lelouch, Charles zi Britannia is a horrible dictator. He is a cold and intelligent man who strongly holds views of social Darwinism, believing that only the strongest were worthy to rise in society.

Walking down the path, he treated Lelouch harshly after the death of his mother and offered no sympathy to him. Charles even shunned his daughter, Nunnally, after she becomes paralyzed and blind. For him, his children are nothing but entertainers.
