With the spring season coming to an end, anime fans around the world are already planning to watch the shows that are going to drop in summer. But, in a pool of dozens of anime with different genres, which one should you look forward to most? This list will work as a guide for you to pick the most awaited summer anime in 2023.

While the sequels of Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach are going to lead the season from the front, the debut of new shows will also stir the anime community. So, without any further ado let’s dive into the list to find some interesting anime to watch this summer.

10. Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King (June 16)

“Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King” is the first feature film of the popular shōnen franchise, Black Clover. After a number of delays, the movie is finally set to release theatrically on June 16th, 2023 in Japan. On the same day, the film will be available for international viewers via the courtesy of Netflix.

The creator of the series, Yuki Tabata himself is supervising the movie and is also involved in the narration department. Although the fans are skeptical about the plot of the movie, it has already been confirmed by Netflix that the movie is going to feature the main cast and will be a completely original story centered around the previous Wizard King, Konrad.

The seasonal fans of Bungo Stray Dogs are the luckiest beings on earth for getting two back-to-back season’s in a single year. Although the fourth season of the anime series concluded just a couple of months ago, the producers have already decided to drop the fifth season in July as part of the summer anime in 2023.

As the final episode of the fourth season wrapped up on the Sky Casino Arc that featured the Armed Detective Agency trying to learn the location of the missing page, the stage is set for the Kamui Revelation Arc to be commenced in Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5.

In a trash-filled apartment, 24-year-old Akira Tendo watches a zombie movie with lifeless, envious eyes. After spending three hard years at an exploitative corporation in Japan, his spirit is broken. He can’t even muster the courage to confess his feelings to his beautiful co-worker Saori.

Then, just when life is beginning to look like one big disappointment, the zombie apocalypse descends on Japan! The whole city’s swarming with zombies, and even though he’s running for his life, Akira has never felt more alive. Now, with his nightmare job no longer, Akira goes on a mission to complete all 100 items on his bucket list.

Rental Girls will be back on the television screens in the broadcasting slot of summer anime in 2023. The third season will continue the exploits of Kazuya who decides to use an online dating app to rent a girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara after being dumped by his girlfriend.

In an attempt to make an impression on his family and friends, Kazuya continues renting Chizuru but things get complicated when they discover they are next-door apartment neighbors and attend the same college. Later, other girls from the rental girlfriend business also join in making it a stirring rom-com genre full of twists and turns.

6. Baki Hanma Season 2 (July 26)

Netflix’s original “Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre” will also debut with its second season this summer. Based on Keisuke Itagaki’s manga, the two-part anime series will drop on July 26th with the “Tale of Pickle & Pickle War Saga” story, followed by the “Father vs Son Saga” story debuting on August 24th.

The story will finally unfold into a full-blooded clash between Baki Hanma and his father, Yujiro Hanma. The climax of the Baki universe, which depicts the “strongest parent-child brawl in the history of the world” in the original manga, will finally be adapted into the long-awaited anime.

5. Mushoku Tensei Season 2 (July)

In the forthcoming summer season, the isekai community will be delighted to witness another chapter of Mushoku Tensei being unfolded in front of their eyes. The series will continue the story of a 34-year-old virgin jobless guy who finds himself being reincarnated in a new world after a sudden road accident.

Going by the name of Rudeus Greyrat, he ventures his new life in a world full of swords and sorcery. As Rudeus’ second chance at life begins, he resolves to live his life without regrets trying to make the most of his new opportunity while developing his skills in magic.

4. Horimiya: Piece (July)

Horimiya: Piece is a sequel to the popular rom-com series, Horimiya. The new season would be adapting chapters from the manga that have not been animated yet in the original anime. The story follows two high school students, Kyoki Hori and Izumi Miyamaru who show completely contrasting personalities.

While Hori is a bright student, Miyamaru is a nerdy glass-wearing guy however their after-school life seems a little fishy. By sheer luck, these seemingly polar opposites become fast friends, sharing with each other a side of themselves they have never shown to anyone else.

3. Rurouni Kenshin (July)

The anime remake of the classic 90s anime, Rurouni Kenshin is much-awaited summer anime in 2023. The series follows an Ishin assassin whose skill and brutality became near legendary in the age of restoration he helped to build. However, as the time of fighting drew to a close, he vanished without a trace, only to resurface eleven years later as a wandering swordsman, Himura Kenshin.

Now staying at a kenjutsu dojo maintained by a fiery-tempered woman named Kamiya Kaoru, and surrounded by newfound friends, Himura seeks to carry out his vow to protect the weak without killing to atone for the lives he’s taken. It’s not long, though, before this vow is put to the test, and the shadows of his past return to haunt him and everyone he holds dear.

The second cour of the “Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Arc” will drop this summer in July 2023. Written by Tite Kubo, the story of the four-part final arc of the series goes like this, “To maintain the balance of the hollow system, the Soul Society destroyed the entire race of Quincy 1000 years ago.

However, after various incidents involving Hollow disappearances and mass murders begin to take place, it comes to notice that Quincy’s are still alive. Led by their founder, Yhwach the Quincy starts gathering their power back and declares war against the Soul Society that will decide the fate of the other dimensions and the Soul Palace itself”.

1. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (July 6)

The Jujutsu Kaisen sequel is arguably among the most awaited summer anime in 2023. Unlike the previous season, the second season of anime is set to premiere on July 6th and will run for consecutive two cours as confirmed by Studio MAPPA.

The upcoming sequel will adapt Gojo’s Past arc from the manga which follows Gojo and Geto’s escapades when they were best friends at Jujutsu Tech. Most probably, Shibuya Incident Arc will also commence in this season besides the introduction of another strongest Jujutsu Kaisen character, Toji Fushigoro.
